Territorial Army Captain Anurag Thakur and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur visited Sainik School Sujanpur Tira in his Hamirpur parliamentary constituency and interacted with students on education, personality development, nation-building and India’s growing defence capabilities. The programme was held under the leadership of Sainik School Sujanpur Tira Principal Group Captain Rachna Joshi.
Addressing the students, Thakur said military schools are not merely institutions providing academic education but vital centres that lay the foundation for the country’s future leadership and nation-building. He highlighted the importance of discipline, leadership ability, self-confidence, responsibility and dedication to the nation, describing these qualities as essential for strengthening India’s capabilities in the years to come.
During his interaction, Thakur discussed various aspects of education, personality development and nation-building with the students. He encouraged them to continuously learn throughout their lives, interact with new people, remain curious and expand their knowledge beyond the classroom.
Thakur also highlighted India’s rapid progress towards self-reliance in the defence sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said modern defence equipment is increasingly being manufactured within the country and the Indian Armed Forces are being equipped with new technologies and advanced capabilities.
He emphasised that students of military schools should remain aware of these developments and understand the country’s growing defence strength. According to Thakur, familiarity with India’s achievements in the defence sector can further strengthen a sense of pride, responsibility and commitment towards the nation among young students.
Thakur’s interaction with the students also carried significance because of his own association with the Territorial Army. He is a commissioned officer of the Territorial Army and serves with the 124 Infantry Battalion (Sikh). He joined the Territorial Army in July 2016 and was commissioned as a Lieutenant. After successfully completing the required selection and training process, Thakur was promoted to the rank of Captain in March 2021.
Drawing from both his public service and military association, Thakur urged the students to develop discipline, leadership and a strong sense of responsibility from an early age. He said that education should not be viewed only as a means of obtaining academic qualifications but as a continuous process of developing character, knowledge and the ability to serve society and the nation.
The programme was conducted under the leadership of Principal Group Captain Rachna Joshi, whose role reflects the institution’s continued focus on academic excellence, discipline, leadership development, physical fitness and preparation for future service to the nation.
Thakur encouraged the students to remain informed about developments in science, technology, defence and national affairs. He stressed that a knowledgeable, confident and disciplined younger generation would be central to building a stronger, more capable and self-reliant India.
The visit concluded with Thakur encouraging the students to continue learning, broaden their horizons and remain committed to their responsibilities towards the nation. His interaction at Sainik School Sujanpur sought to inspire the young students to develop strong personalities and leadership qualities while contributing meaningfully to India’s future.
