The Central Ordnance Depot (COD) Agra hosted the Indigenisation Sub Committee Meeting, bringing together representatives of the Indian Army, industry, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), start-ups and the Department of Indigenisation to address critical Army requirements through indigenous solutions.
The meeting focused on converting critical requirements of the Indian Army into home-grown solutions and strengthening efforts to reduce dependence on imported components. The participating stakeholders discussed requirements related to critical spares and ways to expand the indigenous vendor base.
Maj Gen Puneet Aggarwal, ADG OS (B), Base Workshop Group, along with officials from Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army), drove the discussions towards actionable outcomes. The meeting provided a platform for identifying specific areas where indigenous solutions could be developed and implemented.
A key focus of the meeting was the identification of ex-import spares. These are components and spares that have traditionally been dependent on imports and require indigenous alternatives to support the Army’s equipment and systems.
The meeting also addressed critical shortfalls and explored opportunities to develop indigenous solutions for identified requirements. The participation of industry, MSMEs and start-ups provided a wider platform for connecting Army requirements with domestic technological and manufacturing capabilities.
Another important focus was expanding the indigenous vendor base. By bringing together the Army and Indian industry, the meeting sought to identify and develop additional domestic sources capable of meeting critical requirements.
The engagement reflected a direct linkage between operational requirements and industrial capabilities, with the objective of transforming identified Army requirements into indigenous solutions. The approach centred on a clear progression from Army requirements to industry solutions and, ultimately, indigenous capability.
The participation of MSMEs and start-ups was particularly focused on creating opportunities for domestic enterprises to contribute to the development of solutions for critical Army requirements. The meeting therefore brought together different stakeholders involved in the indigenisation process under a common platform.
The Indigenisation Sub Committee Meeting at COD Agra also provided an avenue for officials from the Department of Indigenisation and IHQ MoD (Army) to work alongside industry representatives and smaller domestic enterprises in identifying actionable areas.
The discussions focused on three broad requirements: identifying ex-import spares, addressing critical shortfalls and expanding the indigenous vendor base. These areas formed the basis for the meeting’s efforts to strengthen indigenous solutions for the Indian Army.
