Gurugram, September 14, 2026 — A retired Indian Air Force Group Captain and Kargil War veteran has alleged that a parking attendant assaulted him with an iron rod at a commercial complex in Gurugram, leaving him with serious head injuries and a fractured elbow.
Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired), who participated in the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar during the 1999 Kargil conflict, was visiting Magnum Global Park in Sector 65 with his family on the evening of September 10 for dinner at Gonzo restaurant. After dropping his family near the restaurant around 8 p.m., he proceeded to park his vehicle. According to his complaint, parking staff directed him between the valet area, basement, and multilevel parking before ultimately refusing to accommodate the car.
The situation escalated when Gupta attempted to reverse the vehicle. He alleged that an attendant struck the windshield, apparently in an effort to damage it. When Gupta stepped out to object, the attendant returned with an iron rod and struck him twice—first on the hand or arm and then on the head—causing heavy bleeding. Gupta stated that the attack was sudden and unprovoked and that he was unable to defend himself. The attendant also allegedly threatened to kill him.
Gupta further alleged that neither security personnel nor other parking staff present at the scene intervened. He said he contacted the police helpline, but officers did not arrive for approximately 30 minutes. A chef at the complex eventually intervened. Gupta was taken by ambulance to Medanta Hospital, where he remains under treatment. He underwent surgery in which plates were inserted to repair and stabilize the fractured elbow. He has also alleged that the hospital prepared an inaccurate medico-legal report that omitted mention of the head bleeding and the severity of the elbow injury.
A written complaint was lodged at the Sector 65 police station. Gupta has sought registration of a case under provisions relating to attempt to murder and causing grievous hurt. Police have registered a first information report against an unidentified parking attendant under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Station House Officer Rambir Singh stated that an investigation has been launched to identify and arrest the suspect. One report identified the attendant as Deepak, who is said to be absconding. Gupta was not in a condition to record a detailed statement immediately after the incident but submitted a written complaint.
The veteran has demanded strict action against the accused. The investigation remains underway.
