Srinagar, September 7, 2026: Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma has reviewed the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness of troops deployed in South Kashmir, emphasising sustained vigilance and close coordination among stakeholders to effectively meet emerging challenges.
Lt Gen Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Northern Command, visited hinterland units in South Kashmir, where he took stock of the security environment and assessed the operational readiness of troops deployed in the region.
During the visit, the Army Commander was briefed on the prevailing security situation and the preparedness of formations responsible for maintaining security in their respective areas.
Lt Gen Sharma underscored the importance of maintaining sustained alertness and ensuring effective synergy with all stakeholders. He stressed that close coordination and a high level of operational preparedness remain essential for responding effectively to evolving security challenges.
The visit comes amid the Army’s continued focus on maintaining a robust security posture across the Kashmir Valley, with troops deployed in both hinterland and forward areas remaining vigilant against potential threats.
During his interaction with personnel, Lt Gen Sharma commended the troops for their professionalism, dedication and commitment towards safeguarding national security.
The latest review follows another visit by the Northern Army Commander to South Kashmir in late August, during which he was briefed on evolving security dynamics, operational challenges and measures being undertaken to strengthen the security grid. That review also focused on the integration of technology to enhance surveillance, intelligence gathering and operational awareness.
Lt Gen Sharma had then called upon troops to remain proactive, adaptive and mission-ready while maintaining operational dominance.
The Northern Command continues to oversee strategically important areas across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, with operational preparedness, inter-agency coordination and troop readiness remaining key priorities.
