Agniveer Subhash Kumar Chaudhary, a 22-year-old Indian Army recruit from Jamuarakhurd village in the Bankebazar block of Gaya district, Bihar, died on 12 October 2026 while undergoing treatment at JLN Hospital in Ajmer, Rajasthan. He had accidentally ingested diesel while siphoning fuel approximately one week earlier during a duty-related movement.
Chaudhary, son of Gaya Chaudhary and Manwa Devi, was enrolled as an Agniveer in 2023 and posted with a unit in Jaisalmer. On 3 October 2026, while travelling with his regiment for training exercises, the convoy halted at Nasirabad. During this stop, he was filling diesel from a drum into a vehicle using a pipe and sucking the fuel by mouth to start the flow. Diesel entered his stomach, rendering him unconscious.
He was first taken to a military hospital. When his condition did not improve, he was referred to JLN Hospital in Ajmer, where he remained under treatment for nearly a week before succumbing on Monday. City Thana police in Nasirabad registered a case of suspicious death. His brother-in-law, Shambhu Kumar (son of Ramasre), lodged the report. After postmortem, the body was handed over to the family.

The mortal remains reached Jamuarakhurd village on 13 October. Large numbers of villagers and local residents gathered for last rites, paying tributes amid slogans honouring the deceased. The incident has caused deep mourning in the village and surrounding areas. Reports noted that Chaudhary is survived by his parents and wife.
The death occurred in the course of routine fueling duties while the soldier was on the move with his unit. Authorities have described the case as accidental ingestion during oral siphoning of diesel.
