Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate a milestone event at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s (HAL) Koraput Division in Odisha on October 6, 2026, marking the delivery of the 2,000th aero-engine manufactured by the division.
The milestone event will mark nearly six decades of HAL Koraput’s contribution to India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing capabilities and the operational readiness of the Armed Forces.
The event will also highlight the establishment of a second production line for Shakti engines, involving an investment of Rs 218 crore. The additional production capacity is intended to support the growing requirements of indigenous helicopter platforms, including the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter and Prachand Light Combat Helicopter.
The delivery of the 2,000th aero-engine represents a significant milestone in the manufacturing journey of HAL’s Koraput Division. The event will highlight the division’s contribution to India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing capabilities over nearly six decades.
The establishment of the second production line for Shakti engines is another key feature of the event. The additional production capacity is aimed at supporting the requirements of indigenous helicopter platforms, particularly the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter and Prachand Light Combat Helicopter.
The milestone event also underlines the Government’s vision of transforming India from a buyer of defence equipment into a designer, developer and manufacturer of defence systems. Indigenous aero-engine capability is identified as a critical component of this vision because of the strategic importance and technological complexity of propulsion systems.
The development and production of aero-engines remains an important area of defence manufacturing, and the expansion of Shakti engine production at HAL Koraput is intended to strengthen indigenous manufacturing capacity for helicopter platforms.
The event will be attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Secretary (Defence Production) Sanjeev Kumar and HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi K, among others.
The October 6 event at HAL Koraput will therefore bring together the milestone delivery of the 2,000th aero-engine and the highlighting of additional Shakti engine production capacity, while showcasing the contribution of the Koraput Division to India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing sector.
