Guwahati, November 6, 2026: The Brahmaputra Sailing Expedition – MENU 2026 successfully concluded with a grand Flag-In Ceremony at Pandu Port in Guwahati, attended by the Chief Minister of Assam, marking the culmination of a 10-day journey undertaken by 100 Naval NCC cadets across the Brahmaputra River.
Organised under the aegis of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate North Eastern Region (NER), the expedition brought together cadets from the 48 and 49 Assam Naval Units. The participants covered approximately 248 kilometres across six districts of Assam, demonstrating endurance, teamwork, discipline and sailing skills.
The expedition also paid tribute to legendary Ahom General Bir Lachit Borphukan, whose leadership and military strategy played a decisive role in the historic Battle of Saraighat in 1671, when Ahom forces successfully resisted the Mughal invasion.
By retracing a river deeply connected to Assam’s history and cultural identity, the expedition sought to inspire young cadets with the values of courage, patriotism, sacrifice and dedication to the nation. The journey highlighted the significance of the Brahmaputra in shaping Assam’s military heritage and historical legacy.
Apart from its historical importance, the sailing expedition provided cadets with practical exposure to seamanship, navigation, leadership and teamwork. The challenging river journey offered an opportunity to develop confidence, resilience and cooperation while operating in demanding conditions.
Throughout the 10-day expedition, the NCC cadets also participated in Swachhata Abhiyaan activities, anti-drug awareness campaigns and community outreach programmes. These initiatives encouraged environmental responsibility, social awareness and meaningful engagement with communities along the river.

The successful completion of MENU 2026 reflects the NCC’s commitment to developing disciplined, responsible and confident young citizens through adventure training and community service. The expedition combined physical endurance, maritime skills, historical awareness and social responsibility, reinforcing the organisation’s role in nurturing future leaders of the nation.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma formally flagged in the expedition and interacted with the participating cadets. He also boarded one of the boats and rowed alongside them, congratulating them on successfully completing the journey. The Sentinel+1
