Bagdogra, West Bengal: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Bagdogra Air Force Station on the eve of Diwali and interacted with Indian Air Force personnel, praising their dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s airspace. During the visit, he highlighted the growing challenges posed by asymmetric warfare, drone swarms and cyberattacks, emphasising the importance of technological preparedness and operational readiness in modern military operations.
The Defence Minister expressed admiration for the courage and high morale of the Air Warriors stationed at Bagdogra, describing the Indian Air Force as a formidable pillar of India’s national security. He acknowledged the vital role played by IAF personnel in maintaining constant vigilance and ensuring the safety of the nation’s skies.
Sharing details of his visit, Rajnath Singh said he was delighted to interact with the Air Warriors ahead of Diwali. He praised their exceptional skills, dedication to duty and steadfast readiness in responding to the country’s evolving security challenges.
Addressing the changing nature of modern warfare, the Defence Minister drew attention to emerging threats involving asymmetric military operations, coordinated drone swarms and sophisticated cyberattacks. He noted that such challenges demand greater domain awareness, technological adaptability and cyber resilience among military personnel.
Rajnath Singh emphasised that the Indian Air Force must remain prepared to operate in an increasingly complex security environment where traditional air warfare is accompanied by threats originating from unmanned aerial systems, electronic networks and cyberspace.
The growing use of drones in modern conflicts has transformed military operations, creating new challenges for surveillance, air defence and the protection of critical infrastructure. Drone swarms, in particular, present complex threats because multiple unmanned platforms can operate simultaneously, potentially overwhelming conventional defensive systems.

Cybersecurity has also emerged as a crucial component of military preparedness, with modern air operations relying heavily on secure communication networks, integrated surveillance systems and digital command-and-control infrastructure.
The Defence Minister’s emphasis on domain awareness and cyber resilience reflected the importance of maintaining technological superiority and strengthening the Indian Air Force’s ability to detect, assess and respond to emerging threats.
During his interaction with personnel at Bagdogra, Rajnath Singh expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm, professionalism and high morale displayed by the officers and Air Warriors. He described meeting the men and women serving on the frontline as an inspiring experience.

Bagdogra Air Force Station holds considerable strategic importance due to its location in northern West Bengal, near the Siliguri Corridor, which connects mainland India with the northeastern states. The airbase supports the Indian Air Force’s operational requirements in a geographically sensitive region and contributes to maintaining aerial preparedness in eastern India.
The visit also carried special significance as it took place ahead of Diwali, a festival traditionally celebrated with family and loved ones. Rajnath Singh acknowledged the sacrifices made by Armed Forces personnel who remain deployed at operational locations during festivals to ensure the country’s safety and security.
He observed that citizens across India can celebrate festivals peacefully because members of the Armed Forces remain vigilant around the clock, protecting the nation’s borders, airspace and strategic interests.
The Defence Minister praised the selfless service of military personnel and conveyed the nation’s appreciation for their courage, commitment and dedication. He emphasised that the entire country takes immense pride in the valour and sacrifices of its Armed Forces.
The interaction at Bagdogra Air Force Station highlighted the government’s recognition of the Indian Air Force’s role in addressing conventional and emerging security challenges while maintaining a high level of operational readiness.
Rajnath Singh’s visit reinforced the importance of technological modernisation, enhanced cyber capabilities and preparedness against drone-based threats in strengthening India’s air defence architecture.
The Defence Minister’s engagement with Air Warriors ahead of Diwali also served as a tribute to their professionalism, dedication and sacrifices, reaffirming the nation’s gratitude towards the men and women who remain on duty to safeguard India’s sovereignty and security.
