Visakhapatnam, November 1, 2025 — Vice Admiral Susheel Menon has assumed charge as the Chief of Staff, Headquarters Eastern Naval Command (HQENC), marking a significant leadership transition within the Indian Navy. He takes over the post following the completion of his tenure as the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet (FOCEF), where he played a key role in enhancing the Indian Navy’s operational readiness and maritime capability in the eastern seaboard.

A Decorated Naval Career Spanning Over Three Decades

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Vice Admiral Menon was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1992. A Gunnery and Missiles Specialist, he has served with distinction in numerous operational, training, and staff appointments throughout his illustrious career spanning more than 33 years.

Command of Prestigious Indian Naval Warships

During his career, the Flag Officer has commanded several frontline ships, including IN Ships TRV-71, Kirpan, Kolkata, and the Aircraft Carrier INS Vikramaditya, one of the Navy’s most potent assets. His tenure as Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) was marked by his emphasis on enhancing combat efficiency and readiness across the fleet.

Vice Admiral Menon is a graduate of the Naval Command and Staff College, Jakarta, Indonesia, and the Naval War College, Rhode Island, USA, reflecting his exposure to international naval doctrines and strategic studies. His academic credentials have greatly contributed to his strategic leadership and vision for the Indian Navy.

Recognized for Distinguished Service

In recognition of his exemplary service and contributions to the Navy, Vice Admiral Susheel Menon was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in 2019. His leadership continues to embody the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and dedication that define the Indian Navy’s ethos.

Strengthening the Eastern Naval Command

As Chief of Staff at HQENC, Vice Admiral Menon will play a pivotal role in overseeing key operational, administrative, and strategic initiatives of the Eastern Naval Command, also known as the Eastern Sword (Sunrise Fleet). His appointment reinforces the Navy’s commitment to maintaining maritime dominance and safeguarding India’s interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
