Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, visited the Defence Security Corps (DSC) Centre, Kannur, to review ongoing training initiatives, welfare activities, and humanitarian assistance preparedness in the region.
During the visit, the Army Commander was briefed on the Centre’s pivotal role in training personnel, its operational responsibilities, and the preparedness of troops for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations within the Area of Responsibility. He lauded the Centre’s outstanding efforts during the Wayanad Flood Relief Operations last year, commending the soldiers’ professionalism and swift response in assisting the civil administration during natural calamities.
A key highlight of the visit was the inauguration of “The Golden Boots – Tribute to Unknown Soldiers,” a memorial dedicated to honouring the valour, sacrifice, and indomitable spirit of soldiers who laid down their lives in service to the nation. The memorial stands as a symbol of remembrance and inspiration for future generations of soldiers.
Lt Gen Seth also appreciated the establishment of the Military–Civil Fusion Training Node, an initiative designed to enhance coordination between the armed forces and local civil agencies for effective disaster response and civic cooperation.
In line with the Indian Army’s continued emphasis on veteran welfare, the Army Commander inaugurated the newly constructed Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic at Iritty, which will provide comprehensive healthcare facilities to veterans and their dependents across North Kerala.
During his interaction with troops and veterans, Lt Gen Seth reaffirmed the Southern Command’s commitment to training excellence, community partnership, and welfare of ex-servicemen. His visit underscored the Indian Army’s enduring dedication to operational preparedness, humanitarian assistance, and the well-being of its extended military fraternity.
