Flying Officer Bhavya Shah

Flying Officer Bhavya Shah’s journey is a powerful story of determination, discipline, and quiet perseverance—one that began in the fast-paced life of Mumbai and culminates in the prestigious ranks of the Indian Air Force (IAF). He got commissioned on December 13, 2025 marking the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream.

Bhavya’s early life underwent a major transition when his family moved away from Mumbai following his father’s transfer. Shifting from a bustling metropolitan city to a quieter town was challenging, but it played a crucial role in shaping his character. The experience instilled resilience, adaptability, and mental strength—qualities that later proved vital during his military journey.

While pursuing his college education in Pune, Bhavya worked part-time at McDonald’s, balancing academics with professional responsibilities. Reflecting on that phase, he recalls, “It was my first taste of independence. I learned to manage my finances, my time, and myself.” The discipline and work ethic he developed during those days became invaluable during his rigorous defence training.

A defining moment came when Bhavya joined the Air Squadron of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Pune. Wearing the uniform, attending training camps, and flying microlight aircraft gave direction to his ambitions. “That is when my dream of serving the nation truly became real,” he says, describing how NCC shaped his goal of joining the Indian Air Force.

The path to success was far from easy. Multiple Services Selection Board (SSB) attempts and years of dedicated preparation tested his patience and resolve. However, his persistence paid off when he joined the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, in April 2024.

Within just three months of training, Bhavya earned a place on the Indian Air Force merit list, ranking among the top candidates. Choosing to don the blue uniform, he realised his ambition of becoming an IAF pilot, a goal nurtured through years of hard work and self-belief.

From managing orders at a fast-food counter to preparing for advanced flight training at the Air Force Academy, Bhavya Shah’s journey stands as an inspiring example for young defence aspirants across India. His guiding mantra, passed down by his NCC seniors—“Tagda Raho” (Stay Strong)—continues to motivate him.
