Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), visited the Junior Leaders Wing (JL Wing), Belagavi, on January 6, 2026, to review training standards, instructional initiatives, and infrastructure development at the prestigious establishment.
During the visit, Lt Gen Sharma was briefed by Major General Rakesh Manocha, Commander, Junior Leaders Wing, on the various training initiatives being undertaken for the conduct of the renowned Commando Course and Platoon Commander Course. These courses play a critical role in shaping junior leaders capable of leading troops effectively in complex and high-intensity operational environments.
The Army Commander interacted with trainees and posted staff and addressed all ranks at the JL Wing. In his address, he commended them for their high professional ethos, discipline, and commitment to excellence. He emphasised the need for continuous evolution in training philosophy to keep pace with the rapidly changing nature of modern warfare.
Drawing lessons from contemporary conflicts, Lt Gen Sharma highlighted how quick decision-making, adaptability, and rapid absorption of new technologies have delivered disproportionate dividends on the battlefield. He urged junior leaders to cultivate innovative thinking, battlefield awareness, and technological proficiency, as these attributes will define success in future conflicts.
As part of the visit, the Army Commander also toured the Platoon Commanders Wing and the Commando Wing, where he was briefed on upcoming training programmes as well as ongoing and planned administrative and training infrastructure upgrades at both locations.
The visit reaffirmed ARTRAC’s focus on strengthening leadership development, modernising training institutions, and preparing junior leaders who are agile, decisive, and future-ready to meet the challenges of contemporary and emerging battlefields.
