The Delhi High Court has dismissed a petition filed by actor Celina Jaitly seeking assistance regarding her brother Vikrant Jaitly, who is currently detained in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The court observed that the petition could not proceed after it was informed that Vikrant Jaitly did not wish to receive legal assistance or communicate with his sister, and preferred to handle the matter independently after consulting his wife.
Vikrant Jaitly Declines Legal Support
The case was heard on March 16, 2026, by Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav, who noted that Vikrant had already been granted consular access but had declined multiple offers of legal representation, including a pro bono offer from a UAE-based law firm.
Celina Jaitly had sought assistance for legal expenses and permission to communicate with her brother, but both requests were declined by Vikrant.
Wife Requests Privacy
During the proceedings, Vikrant Jaitly’s wife, Charul Jaitly, also requested that details of the case not be made public. The court directed authorities to remain in contact with Vikrant and extend any assistance available under the law.
Concluding the matter, the court stated that there was no reason to keep the petition pending and disposed of the case.
Background of the Case
Major (Retd.) Vikrant Jaitly, a former Indian Army officer and brother of Celina Jaitly, has been detained in the UAE since September 6, 2024. While reports suggest the case may be linked to national security concerns, the exact charges have not been publicly disclosed.
Before his detention, Vikrant had been residing in the UAE since 2016 and was reportedly working with a consultancy firm.
The case has drawn attention due to the lack of public clarity and limited communication, though authorities continue to monitor the situation through official channels.
