Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has announced that Group Captain K K Venugopal, Executive Director and Chief Test Pilot (Fixed Wing), has been elected as a Fellow of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots (SETP).
With this achievement, Group Captain Venugopal has become the first Indian test pilot to attain the prestigious Fellow grade in the internationally renowned organisation representing the global experimental and flight test community.

The Society of Experimental Test Pilots is recognised worldwide for promoting excellence, professionalism, and advancement in experimental flight testing and aerospace research.
The recognition reflects Group Captain Venugopal’s distinguished contribution to flight testing, aerospace development, and India’s indigenous aviation programmes.
His achievement is also seen as a significant milestone for India’s aerospace and defence sector and highlights the growing global recognition of the expertise and capabilities developed within Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and the Indian flight test community.
The honour further reinforces India’s expanding role in advanced aerospace research, aircraft development, and indigenous defence aviation capability building.
