In a solemn and emotionally charged ceremony following the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2026 (Phase-I), Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and Mrs Sunita Dwivedi, President of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), interacted with Veer Naris and family members of gallantry awardees who were honoured posthumously for their supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.
Held in New Delhi, the event paid tribute to the courage, dedication and selfless service of India’s Bravehearts who laid down their lives in the line of duty while protecting the nation’s sovereignty and security.
During the interaction, General Dwivedi personally met the Next of Kin of the fallen soldiers and expressed the Indian Army’s gratitude for the sacrifices made by their loved ones. He also presented the Badge of Sacrifice and Certificate of Honour to the families, recognising the extraordinary courage and devotion to duty displayed by the awardees.
The Army Chief conveyed his solidarity with the Veer Naris and family members, assuring them that the Indian Army stands firmly with them and remains committed to their welfare and well-being.
Mrs Sunita Dwivedi also interacted with the families, acknowledging their resilience and strength while reaffirming the support extended through various welfare initiatives of AWWA.
The ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families in service to the nation. It also underscored the Indian Army’s enduring commitment to honouring its martyrs and preserving the legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
