At the Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Major General Vikas Choudhary, YSM, Inspector General, Training Academy, National Security Guard (NSG), was conferred the prestigious Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) by the President of India in recognition of his distinguished service to the nation.
The award recognises Maj Gen Choudhary’s exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to enhancing the NSG’s operational capability through world-class training, institutional excellence and capacity building. Under his leadership, the NSG Training Academy has continued to strengthen specialised counter-terrorism training and operational preparedness, reinforcing the force’s role as India’s premier counter-terrorism organisation.

Commissioned into the 3rd Battalion, Rajputana Rifles from the Indian Military Academy in 1991, Maj Gen Choudhary is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Pune. During a distinguished military career spanning more than three decades, he has served in diverse operational environments, including Sikkim, Punjab, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and along the India-China border.
He has commanded the 3 Rajputana Rifles and has held several key appointments, including serving as Defence Attaché at the Indian Embassy in China and commanding a brigade in the North East. Following higher military studies at the National Defence College, he was promoted to the rank of Major General and has since held important leadership appointments within the Indian Army and the National Security Guard.
A native of Sankhol village in Haryana’s Jhajjar district, Maj Gen Choudhary comes from a family with a distinguished tradition of military service. His father, Colonel Krishna Choudhary, served in the Indian Army, while his brother is a retired Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force.
The conferment of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal stands as recognition of Maj Gen Vikas Choudhary’s exceptional professionalism, leadership and enduring contribution to strengthening India’s national security and specialised counter-terrorism capabilities.
