Lieutenant General AK Pundir, SM, VSM assumed the appointment of Director General (DG) of Infantry on 1 July 2026, taking charge of one of the Indian Army’s most significant appointments responsible for overseeing the Infantry arm.
As part of the assumption of office ceremony, Lt Gen AK Pundir laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, paying homage to the Bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. The solemn tribute reflected the Indian Army’s enduring tradition of honouring its fallen soldiers before assuming key leadership responsibilities.

The Director General of Infantry is responsible for shaping the operational capabilities, training, modernization and doctrinal development of the Infantry, the largest combat arm of the Indian Army.

With his extensive operational experience and distinguished service, Lt Gen AK Pundir is expected to lead the Infantry in enhancing combat readiness, capability development and operational excellence while carrying forward the proud traditions and ethos of the Indian Army.
