The Canine Medicine and Surgery Course conducted by the Remount Veterinary Corps (RVC) Centre and College concluded on July 15, 2026, marking another important milestone in strengthening specialised veterinary capabilities within the Indian Army. Designed to provide military veterinary officers with advanced knowledge and practical expertise, the course focused on the latest developments in canine medicine, diagnostics and surgical procedures that are critical to supporting the operational effectiveness and welfare of military working dogs.

Lieutenant Colonel Philip Varghese was adjudged the Best Student of the course in recognition of his outstanding performance and professional excellence throughout the training programme.

The specialised course provided participants with intensive practical training and comprehensive hands-on exposure aimed at enhancing their competencies in contemporary veterinary practices. As part of the programme, officers underwent specialised training at the Madras Veterinary College under the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), one of India’s premier veterinary institutions. The collaboration enabled participants to gain valuable exposure to advanced diagnostic methodologies, modern treatment protocols and the latest surgical techniques in canine healthcare.

The practical training component was designed to familiarise officers with contemporary approaches to canine medicine while strengthening their ability to diagnose and manage complex medical and surgical conditions affecting military working dogs. Exposure to emerging veterinary technologies and specialised clinical practices further enhanced their preparedness to deliver high-quality veterinary care across diverse operational environments.
