General Dhiraj Seth was also briefed on the operational preparedness of the Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) and the Red Shield Division. The Army Chief reviewed the operational capabilities of the formations and appreciated their commitment to maintaining constant vigilance along sensitive areas. He noted that the evolving nature of security threats requires military formations to remain adaptable, technologically proficient and fully prepared to respond swiftly to any contingency.

A key aspect of the visit was the review of the extensive nation-building initiatives being undertaken by the Red Shield Division and the Directorate General Assam Rifles to promote peace, stability and socio-economic development across the region. These initiatives, carried out alongside operational responsibilities, reflect the Indian Army’s people-centric approach to strengthening trust and fostering long-term stability in the Northeast.

The nation-building programmes include community outreach activities, infrastructure support, educational assistance, medical camps, skill development initiatives and projects aimed at improving the quality of life in remote and border areas. Such efforts have played a significant role in strengthening civil-military relations and supporting the government’s broader developmental objectives in the region.

The Assam Rifles, often referred to as the “Sentinels of the Northeast,” continues to play a crucial role in safeguarding the India-Myanmar border while conducting counter-insurgency operations and supporting civil administration across the Northeastern states. Working under the operational control of the Indian Army, the force remains instrumental in maintaining internal security and facilitating peace-building efforts.

Officers Reviewing

General Dhiraj Seth also interacted with officers, junior leaders and troops deployed in the area, appreciating their dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment to duty. He acknowledged the challenging operational environment in which they serve and commended their resilience in maintaining operational effectiveness while contributing to peace and stability in the region.

Addressing the troops, the Army Chief exhorted all ranks to remain vigilant, operationally agile and future-ready to effectively tackle emerging security challenges. He emphasised that modern military operations demand continuous learning, technological adaptation and a high degree of operational flexibility to successfully respond to rapidly evolving threats.

General Dhiraj Seth encouraged the troops to continue maintaining the highest standards of military professionalism while embracing innovation and technological advancements as part of the Indian Army’s ongoing transformation. He observed that a technologically empowered and well-trained force remains essential for preserving operational superiority in the increasingly complex security landscape.

The Army Chief further stressed that operational success depends not only on combat preparedness but also on the confidence and trust developed with local communities through sustained outreach and nation-building efforts. He praised the formations for balancing their operational responsibilities with developmental initiatives that contribute to lasting peace and stability across the region.

The visit underscores the Indian Army’s continued focus on strengthening operational preparedness while fostering a secure and peaceful environment in the Northeast through close coordination with the Assam Rifles, civil administration and other stakeholders. Regular reviews by the Army Chief provide strategic guidance and reinforce the Army’s commitment to maintaining the highest levels of readiness across all operational formations.

General Dhiraj Seth’s interaction with the troops and review of operational and developmental initiatives reaffirm the Indian Army’s vision of building a modern, agile and future-ready force capable of addressing both traditional and emerging security challenges. Through operational excellence, technological modernisation and people-centric initiatives, the Army and the Assam Rifles continue to play a pivotal role in safeguarding national security while supporting peace, stability and development in the Northeastern region.
