Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Surya Command, visited Jabalpur Military Station to review the operational preparedness, administrative efficiency, infrastructure development and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) capabilities of the Madhya Bharat Area. The visit reaffirmed the Indian Army’s continued focus on strengthening mission readiness, enhancing combat support infrastructure and ensuring that formations remain prepared to respond effectively across the full spectrum of military and humanitarian operations.
During the visit, the Army Commander received comprehensive briefings from senior military officials on the operational responsibilities, administrative functioning and ongoing capability enhancement initiatives being undertaken within the Madhya Bharat Area. He reviewed the measures adopted to maintain a high level of combat preparedness while ensuring efficient administration and sustained operational effectiveness across the formation.
Lt Gen Sengupta also assessed the progress of various infrastructure development projects aimed at improving military facilities, enhancing troop welfare and supporting long-term operational requirements. The modernisation initiatives are designed to strengthen the Army’s ability to sustain operations while providing state-of-the-art infrastructure for training, logistics and administrative functions.
A significant aspect of the visit focused on the formation’s Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) capabilities. The Army Commander reviewed preparedness measures, rapid response mechanisms and coordination procedures that enable military units to assist civil authorities during natural disasters and emergencies. As part of his visit, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta also visited the Central Ordnance Depot (COD), one of the Indian Army’s key logistics establishments responsible for the storage, maintenance and timely distribution of military equipment and stores. The visit highlighted the critical role played by logistics in sustaining operational readiness and ensuring uninterrupted support to formations deployed across diverse operational environments.
At the depot, the Army Commander reviewed logistics management practices and the overall operational preparedness of the establishment. He was briefed on inventory management systems, equipment maintenance procedures and initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, accountability and responsiveness within the Army’s logistics chain.
Lt Gen Sengupta inspected the Small Arms Sub Depot and the Return Stores Sub Depot, where he examined the processes adopted for the storage, maintenance, inspection and lifecycle management of military equipment. He appreciated the exemplary equipment management practices implemented by the depot personnel and commended their efforts in maintaining high standards of accountability and operational efficiency.
The Army Commander observed that efficient logistics and effective equipment management form the backbone of military capability, ensuring that frontline formations receive the necessary resources to maintain combat readiness at all times. He noted that continuous improvements in logistics infrastructure and inventory management significantly contribute to sustaining the Indian Army’s operational effectiveness.
Interacting with officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and soldiers during the visit, Lt Gen Sengupta praised all ranks for their professionalism, discipline and unwavering commitment to duty. He acknowledged their dedicated efforts in maintaining high standards of operational preparedness while effectively discharging their responsibilities in support of the Army’s mission.
