During the review, emphasis was placed on the importance of immediate medical intervention in operational and battlefield situations, where the first few minutes following an injury can have a decisive impact on survival and recovery.

Officer Talking 5

Maj Gen Vinod Kumar Patra highlighted the need for personnel to maintain proficiency in Basic Life Support (BLS), Yodha Rakshak skills and Bachaav protocols. These capabilities are aimed at enabling trained personnel to provide timely first response and stabilisation before a casualty reaches advanced medical facilities.

The review underscored the significance of reducing delays in casualty management. In combat environments, where evacuation and access to medical facilities can be challenging, properly trained first responders can play a critical role in preserving life during the crucial initial period following injury.

Particular emphasis was placed on the concept of the Golden Hour, during which rapid assessment, first aid, stabilisation and evacuation can significantly influence outcomes for seriously injured personnel. Maintaining readiness to act immediately is therefore an essential component of military medical preparedness.

The focus on Yodha Rakshak training also reflects the Indian Army’s efforts to expand basic battlefield medical capabilities among soldiers and other personnel. Equipping troops with practical lifesaving skills can help bridge the gap between the occurrence of an injury and the arrival of specialised medical support.

Officers Checking Equipment

The visit also highlighted the importance of maintaining medical preparedness at military healthcare establishments and ensuring that personnel remain trained to respond to a wide range of emergencies. Continuous training, refresher programmes and adherence to established casualty-management protocols remain central to this effort.

The review at Shahjahanpur reinforced the message that medical readiness is an integral part of operational preparedness. From immediate battlefield response to subsequent evacuation and treatment, every stage of casualty care requires speed, coordination and professional competence.

The emphasis on BLS, Yodha Rakshak skills and Bachaav protocols reflects the broader objective of ensuring that soldiers and medical teams are prepared to act without hesitation when lives are at risk, strengthening the Army’s ability to preserve life and maintain operational effectiveness in demanding environments.
