The Judge Advocate Advance Course conducted at the Institute of Military Law (IML), New Delhi, concluded on 11 August 2026 with a valedictory ceremony marking the successful completion of advanced legal training for officers from India and Nepal.
The course brought together officers from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard and Border Security Force, along with an officer from the Nepal Army. The participants were trained in advanced concepts of military and allied laws as part of efforts to strengthen professional legal expertise within the armed forces and security organisations.
The valedictory ceremony was presided over by Hon’ble Mr Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Judge of the Supreme Court of India. During the ceremony, Justice Bishnoi felicitated the awardees and acknowledged the importance of specialised legal training in supporting the effective functioning of the armed forces and other uniformed organisations.
The course provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of military law and allied legal frameworks. The participation of officers from multiple services and organisations also contributed to greater inter-service exposure and a broader understanding of legal issues encountered across the security establishment.
Maj Prashanth K Mukundan was adjudged the Best Student of the course in recognition of his performance during the training programme. His achievement reflected his professional competence and understanding of the advanced concepts covered during the course.
The Institute of Military Law plays an important role in imparting specialised legal education and training to personnel dealing with military justice and related legal matters. Courses such as the Judge Advocate Advance Course contribute to developing professionally equipped legal officers capable of providing informed legal advice and supporting commanders and formations.
The participation of an officer from the Nepal Army also added an international dimension to the programme and provided an opportunity for professional interaction and exchange of perspectives on military and allied legal issues.
