Director General Border Security Force (BSF) Shri Praveen Kumar, IPS, reviewed the operational preparedness of the Amritsar Sector under Punjab Frontier during his visit on August 14 and 15, 2026.
During the visit, the DG BSF visited forward locations and reviewed the security arrangements and operational preparedness of troops deployed along the international border. He also assessed the progress of the new-design border fence being developed to further strengthen border management and surveillance.
An important highlight of the visit was the inauguration of 12 Mahila Prahari barracks aimed at improving accommodation and welfare facilities for women personnel deployed in forward areas.
The Mahila Prahari Barrack at Border Out Post Havelian was inaugurated physically by the DG BSF. Eleven additional Mahila Prahari barracks located at various BOPs in the Gurdaspur, Firozpur and Abohar sectors of Punjab Frontier were inaugurated virtually on August 14.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening welfare and working conditions for women personnel performing demanding duties along the border. Improved infrastructure at forward locations is expected to provide better facilities and support for Mahila Praharis deployed in operational areas.
During the visit, Shri Praveen Kumar also interacted with BSF personnel at a Prahari Sammelan. He appreciated the dedication, hard work and professionalism of the troops deployed in challenging operational conditions.
The DG BSF emphasised the need for personnel to continuously hone their operational skills and remain prepared to address evolving border security challenges. He particularly highlighted the growing threat posed by the use of drones by anti-national elements for activities along the border.
He urged troops to maintain constant vigilance, strengthen their capabilities and adapt to emerging technologies and tactics being employed by hostile and anti-national networks.
The DG BSF assured personnel of continued support from the force leadership towards their welfare and professional requirements. He also felicitated outstanding performers with the Commendation Roll in recognition of their exemplary service and commitment to duty.
The visit highlighted the BSF’s continued focus on strengthening operational preparedness, improving border infrastructure and enhancing the welfare of personnel deployed in forward areas.
The review also reinforced the importance of technology, infrastructure development and continuous skill enhancement in addressing emerging challenges along the Punjab border while maintaining the highest standards of vigilance and border security.
