Shri ML Kom, Chief Engineer, has assumed command of Project Hirak of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), succeeding Shri RS Rao, Chief Engineer, VSM.
Headquartered at Tanakpur, Project Hirak is responsible for the construction, maintenance and upgradation of strategic road infrastructure across the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand as well as Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas of Chhattisgarh.
The project plays an important role in strengthening strategic connectivity across challenging and geographically demanding terrain. Its road infrastructure contributes to improved mobility, accessibility and operational preparedness while also supporting the movement of personnel, equipment and essential supplies in remote areas.
The assumption of command marks the beginning of a new phase for Project Hirak, with Shri ML Kom taking forward the responsibilities of overseeing infrastructure development and maintenance across the project’s diverse operational areas.
On assuming command, Shri ML Kom reaffirmed his commitment to quality infrastructure, professional excellence and timely execution of assigned projects. He also emphasised the importance of maintaining the high standards associated with the Border Roads Organisation while carrying forward the legacy established by his predecessor.
Project Hirak’s responsibilities extend beyond routine road construction, with its work contributing to the broader objective of strengthening connectivity in strategically important and difficult-to-access regions. Reliable road infrastructure is critical for enhancing mobility and facilitating faster access to remote areas.
The project’s work in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand is particularly significant given the difficult Himalayan terrain and the importance of maintaining reliable connectivity in border areas. In Chhattisgarh, its infrastructure activities contribute to improving connectivity in areas affected by Left Wing Extremism.
The change of command reflects the BRO’s continuing focus on professional leadership, infrastructure development and timely execution of strategic connectivity projects.
