The Corps of Signals plays a critical role in ensuring reliable and secure communications for the Indian Army, enabling commanders and formations to maintain effective command, control and coordination across operational environments. In an increasingly technology-driven battlefield, the ability to provide resilient communications and rapidly absorb emerging technologies remains central to maintaining operational effectiveness.

Lt Gen H S Vandra also interacted with officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and troops of the Signal Units during the visit. He commended the personnel for their professionalism, innovative spirit and dedication towards enhancing operational readiness. His interaction with the troops also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the efforts being undertaken at the unit level to maintain high standards of training and operational preparedness.

The emphasis on manpower management and training preparedness assumes particular importance as military communications continue to evolve with the rapid integration of advanced information and communication technologies. Signal units are required to maintain high levels of technical proficiency while ensuring that personnel remain prepared to operate communications systems under demanding operational conditions.

The General Officer also reviewed modernisation initiatives being pursued by the units. The focus on modernisation reflects the Indian Army’s broader effort to build technologically enabled and future-ready formations capable of responding to rapidly changing operational requirements. For the Corps of Signals, this includes continuously adapting personnel, training and infrastructure to support increasingly network-centric military operations.

Welfare measures instituted by the units were another important component of the review. Effective welfare mechanisms remain essential to sustaining morale, motivation and professional effectiveness among troops and their families, particularly for personnel serving in demanding operational and technical roles.

The visit by the Senior Colonel Commandant also highlighted the importance of innovation and initiative at the unit level. As battlefield communications become increasingly dependent on technology, the ability of Signal personnel to identify practical solutions, adapt to new systems and improve existing processes can contribute directly to the Army’s overall operational readiness.

The visit concluded with Lt Gen H S Vandra acknowledging the commitment and dedication demonstrated by the personnel of the Southern Star Signal Units. His interaction reinforced the importance of professionalism, innovation, training and technological preparedness in ensuring that the Corps of Signals remains capable of meeting the communication requirements of a modern and future-ready Indian Army.
