Supaul/Patna, September 14, 2026: A 25-year-old Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) constable died after collapsing during a tear-gas handling exercise at the force’s Recruit Training Centre (RTC) in Supaul district on Saturday night. Doctors at Nirmali Sub-Divisional Hospital declared him dead on arrival. The exact cause of death remains unconfirmed pending the post-mortem report.
The deceased has been identified as Constable Abhishek Yadav, son of Pramod Yadav and a resident of Bhamrauli Ahir village under the Malpura police station area of Agra district, Uttar Pradesh. He was undergoing training at the SSB RTC in Supaul at the time of the incident.
According to police, a training session on the use and handling of tear gas was in progress at the centre when Yadav suddenly lost consciousness and fell. Personnel at the training centre immediately shifted him to Nirmali Sub-Divisional Hospital. Medical staff there pronounced him dead. The body was subsequently taken into police custody and sent to Sadar Hospital in Supaul for post-mortem examination.
Kishanpur Station House Officer Gyan Ranjan Kumar confirmed the death and stated that the precise cause had not yet been established. “Police are awaiting the post-mortem report. The circumstances leading to the constable’s death are being investigated,” he said. Further action will be taken on the basis of the findings, officials added. There have been no reports that other trainees were similarly affected.
Family members have alleged that a tear-gas leak during the exercise caused Yadav to faint. His elder brother, Vishal Yadav, said the constable had spoken to him by video call around noon on Saturday. Abhishek told him that training was nearing completion and that he planned to return home on leave on 20 September, intending to surprise their parents by arriving in uniform. He asked his brother not to inform their parents in advance. After receiving news of the collapse that evening, Pramod Yadav and other relatives left for Bihar. The body was expected to reach the village on Monday morning.
Relatives described Abhishek as the second of four brothers. He had joined the SSB several months earlier. His father previously worked as an auto-tempo driver. The family and villagers in Bhamrauli Ahir have been in mourning since the news arrived.
Police have informed the family and are examining all aspects of the incident. No official statement from SSB headquarters on the training protocol or the cause of death was immediately available. Authorities have said the investigation will proceed on the basis of the autopsy and related inquiries.
