A Kargil War veteran who participated in the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar has alleged that he was attacked with an iron rod by a parking attendant at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram, leaving him with serious injuries to his head and hand. Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired) has sought strict action against the accused and alleged that he did not receive adequate assistance from security personnel or police following the incident.
According to Gupta’s complaint, he had gone to Gonzo restaurant at Magnum Global Park with his family for dinner on Thursday night. At around 8 pm, after dropping his family members at the restaurant, he went to park his vehicle.
Gupta alleged that he was directed between different parking arrangements, including the valet service, basement parking and multilevel parking, before the parking staff eventually refused to park his vehicle. During the ensuing dispute, he alleged that a parking attendant struck the windshield of his car while he was attempting to reverse.
According to Gupta’s account, he subsequently got out of the vehicle and protested. He alleged that the parking attendant then picked up an iron rod and struck him twice, hitting his hand and head. Speaking to NDTV, Gupta recalled that he was left drenched in blood following the alleged assault.
The retired officer further alleged that the accused threatened to kill him during the confrontation. He claimed that security personnel and other parking staff present at the location did not intervene to protect him.
Gupta also alleged that he attempted to contact the police through the helpline but that assistance did not arrive for around half an hour. According to his account, a chef eventually intervened, bringing the confrontation to an end and preventing the situation from escalating further.
Following the incident, Gupta was taken to Medanta Hospital by ambulance. He suffered injuries to his head and elbow and subsequently underwent surgery involving the fusion of his elbow bone with plates, according to the report.
Describing the incident, Gupta alleged that the attack was sudden and unprovoked and that he was unable to defend himself. He has subsequently raised concerns about the medical documentation associated with the incident, alleging that the hospital’s medico-legal case report did not mention the bleeding and elbow injury that he says he sustained.
Gupta has also alleged a lack of support from the police and has called for strict action against the person accused of assaulting him. In his police complaint, he has sought registration of an FIR and action on charges including attempt to murder and causing grievous hurt.
The allegations are now part of a police complaint, and the precise circumstances of the confrontation and the responsibility of those involved would have to be established through the investigation and due legal process.
The incident has attracted particular attention because of Gupta’s background as a military veteran. He served with the Indian Air Force during Operation Safed Sagar, the air operation conducted during the 1999 Kargil War to support Indian ground forces and counter Pakistani intrusions in the high-altitude Kargil sector.
Operation Safed Sagar represented one of the most demanding operational deployments undertaken by the Indian Air Force. Air operations were conducted in extremely challenging mountainous terrain, with aircraft required to operate at high altitudes and under difficult tactical conditions.
The operation became an important chapter in the history of Indian military aviation and demonstrated the role of air power in supporting ground operations during the Kargil conflict. Personnel involved in the campaign operated under significant operational pressures while contributing to India’s effort to regain positions occupied by Pakistani forces.
Gupta’s association with Operation Safed Sagar has brought additional public attention to his allegations following the Gurugram incident. His account has also highlighted the challenges veterans can face when dealing with civilian institutions and authorities after completing their military careers.
For a military veteran, the transition from a structured service environment into civilian life can involve significant changes in the systems of support, accountability and institutional assistance available to them. Incidents involving veterans therefore often generate discussion about the importance of ensuring that former service personnel receive appropriate assistance and that their complaints are handled fairly and promptly.
At the same time, the allegations in the present case must be assessed through the appropriate legal and investigative processes. A police complaint represents the account of the complainant, while the facts surrounding the alleged assault, the conduct of the accused and the response of security and police personnel remain matters for investigation.
The reported incident has also raised questions about security arrangements at commercial establishments, particularly concerning disputes between visitors and parking or valet personnel. The alleged use of an iron rod in a confrontation underscores the potential consequences of such disputes escalating into physical violence.
Gupta has demanded that the authorities take the matter seriously and initiate appropriate legal proceedings against the accused. His complaint also raises concerns about the response of those present at the location and the assistance he says he received after sustaining injuries.
As the matter proceeds, the focus will remain on establishing the sequence of events, determining whether the allegations are substantiated and examining the response of the concerned authorities.
For Gupta, the episode comes years after he served in one of the Indian Air Force’s most demanding wartime operations. His participation in Operation Safed Sagar remains part of India’s Kargil War military history, while the Gurugram incident has now placed the veteran at the centre of a civilian criminal complaint.
The case ultimately highlights the importance of ensuring safety, accountability and prompt assistance in public and commercial spaces, while also underscoring the need for allegations to be examined through due process. As the investigation progresses, the veteran’s demand for strict action will be weighed against the evidence and findings of the authorities.
