Navi Mumbai, September 24, 2026: The Annual Anti-Hijacking Mock Exercise (AHME)–2026 was successfully conducted at CISF Aviation Security Group (ASG) Navi Mumbai on September 22, testing the preparedness and coordinated response of multiple agencies to a simulated aircraft hijacking situation.
The exercise was conducted in accordance with the approved contingency plan and simulated the landing of a hijacked aircraft at Navi Mumbai Airport. The scenario was designed to assess the ability of security, airport and emergency agencies to respond effectively to a major aviation security contingency.
Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL), local police, Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), Intelligence Bureau (IB), National Security Guard (NSG), airlines, medical services, Air Traffic Control (ATC), Krystal and the Bureau of Immigration (BOI) participated in the exercise.
The participating agencies demonstrated coordinated preparedness and inter-agency cooperation while responding to the simulated emergency. The drill also tested established communication channels, response mechanisms and coordination procedures among stakeholders responsible for airport security and emergency management.
As part of the exercise, the Aerodrome Committee was activated. Navi Mumbai Commissioner of Police Milind Bharambe, IPS, and DIG/CASO, ASG Navi Mumbai, Sunit Sharma attended the proceedings along with other concerned members.
Members of the committee assembled at the Airport Crisis Control Room (ACCR) at Navi Mumbai Airport to coordinate the response and oversee developments during the simulated hijacking situation.
The successful completion of AHME–2026 highlighted the coordinated efforts of CISF and other participating stakeholders to maintain a high level of preparedness for potential aviation security emergencies.
Such mock exercises are aimed at testing existing contingency plans, identifying potential gaps and strengthening coordination among security forces, airport authorities and emergency-response agencies in handling critical situations at airports.
