Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain, Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS), visited Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) at Korwa to assess its capabilities towards achieving 100 per cent indigenous production of the AK-203 Assault Rifle. The visit focused on the manufacturing ecosystem, production capabilities and indigenous processes being undertaken at the facility.
During the visit, Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain was briefed on the manufacturing ecosystem and production capabilities of IRRPL. The briefing covered the capabilities of the establishment in relation to the production of the AK-203 Assault Rifle and the ongoing efforts towards achieving complete indigenous production.
The VCOAS subsequently toured the production facilities at Korwa and reviewed the indigenous manufacturing processes. The visit provided an opportunity to assess the production infrastructure and the processes being followed towards strengthening indigenous manufacturing capabilities for the AK-203 Assault Rifle.
The emphasis on 100 per cent indigenous production reflects the focus on strengthening domestic defence production capabilities. The manufacturing ecosystem at IRRPL is being developed with the objective of supporting indigenous production of the AK-203 Assault Rifle.
Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain commended the professionalism and commitment of the IRRPL team towards strengthening indigenous defence production. His interaction and review of the production facilities highlighted the importance of sustained efforts towards developing indigenous manufacturing capabilities.
The visit also underlined the Indian Army’s focus on advancing indigenous defence capabilities through capability development and greater self-reliance. The Army has identified Atmanirbharta and capability development as a key pillar of JAI se VIJAY, with indigenous defence production forming an important part of this effort.
The focus on indigenous manufacturing at IRRPL is aimed at strengthening the domestic defence production ecosystem and supporting the Indian Army’s broader objective of self-reliance and operational readiness. The VCOAS’s visit to the facility provided an opportunity to review these capabilities and the progress of indigenous manufacturing processes.
