Rajkot / Amreli: A 28-year-old Indian Coast Guard constable, Dharmik Shantilal Kotadiya, died at the Coast Guard station in Pipavav, Rajula taluka of Amreli district, on Tuesday. Pipavav Marine Police have registered an unnatural-death case and begun an inquiry into the circumstances.
Kotadiya, a native of Junagadh, was posted as a constable (sepoy) at the Indian Coast Guard Station in Pipavav. According to police and local reports, the incident occurred inside the station mess building on the campus. Senior Coast Guard officers reached the site after being informed. The body was later shifted to Rajula Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Local news organisations reported that colleagues found him in the mess premises and that he had died by hanging. Police have not issued a final finding on the manner or cause of death. Officers are recording statements from colleagues and others associated with him. Forensic examination, the post-mortem report, and related records form part of the investigation. No official confirmation of a suicide note has been made public, and no motive has been established.
The family has been informed. Personnel at the station described an atmosphere of mourning following the death. Police said the inquiry will continue until the circumstances are clarified.
