The High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) hosted Defence Attachés from New Zealand, Canada and Peru on 28-29 September 2026 as part of an engagement focused on mountain warfare training, operational roles and future cooperation.
During the visit, the visiting delegation was briefed on the history of the High Altitude Warfare School, its operational role and its training methodology. The briefing provided the Defence Attachés with an overview of the institution and its approach to training for high-altitude and mountain warfare.
The delegation also witnessed a demonstration on Military Rock Craft. The demonstration provided an insight into the techniques and capabilities associated with military operations in mountainous terrain.
An equipment display was also organised during the visit, showcasing contemporary mountain warfare capabilities. The display provided the visiting Defence Attachés an opportunity to gain an understanding of the equipment and capabilities associated with mountain warfare.
The two-day engagement also included discussions on avenues for future cooperation in Mountain and Winter Warfare. The discussions focused on identifying areas for further cooperation between the participating countries in these specialised domains.
The visit brought together Defence Attachés from New Zealand, Canada and Peru with personnel of the High Altitude Warfare School, providing an opportunity to exchange perspectives on mountain and winter warfare.
