The Lawrence School, Sanawar, is set to celebrate its 179th Founder’s Day with a three-day programme from October 3 to 5, with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan scheduled to attend the concluding ceremony as the Chief Guest.
Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, who assumed charge as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff on May 31, will attend the 179th Founder’s Trooping of the School Flag on October 5 as part of the celebrations.
The three-day programme will bring together students, faculty members, parents and Old Sanawarians from across the world. The celebrations will include sporting events, cultural activities, exhibitions, assemblies and traditional ceremonies.
The Founder’s Day programme marks the long institutional history of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, which was founded on April 15, 1847, by Sir Henry Lawrence and Lady Honoria Lawrence.
The school began with 14 boys and girls living under canvas before its first buildings were constructed. Over the years, Sanawar has developed into an institution with a long association with education and has produced a significant number of defence officers.
Among its notable alumni is Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, who was awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his actions during the 1971 Indo-Pak War and is remembered for his role in the Battle of Basantar.
The participation of the Chief of the Naval Staff in the concluding ceremony will form part of the school’s 179th Founder’s Day programme, with the traditional Trooping of the School Flag scheduled for October 5.
The celebrations will provide an opportunity for the school community, including current students and Old Sanawarians, to come together for the annual Founder’s Day observances. The programme will combine sporting and cultural activities with exhibitions, assemblies and traditional ceremonies marking the occasion.
The 179th Founder’s Day celebrations will conclude on October 5 with the Founder’s Trooping of the School Flag, with Admiral Krishna Swaminathan attending the ceremony as Chief Guest.
