The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an alleged infiltration attempt along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab on Friday, October 2, after two suspected Pakistani intruders were shot dead in the Tarn Taran district.
According to officials cited in the report, the incident took place early in the day in the BOP Rajoke area of Tarn Taran. BSF personnel reportedly detected suspicious movement towards the Indian side and moved to challenge the individuals approaching the border.
At least three individuals were reportedly seen moving towards the Indian border from the Chattanwala area on the Pakistani side. The BSF personnel challenged the individuals and warned them against proceeding further into Indian territory.
The individuals allegedly ignored the warnings and continued moving towards the Indian side. Following this, BSF personnel opened fire, resulting in two of the suspected infiltrators being killed.
A third individual reportedly managed to retreat towards the Pakistani side. The identities of the two individuals killed in the incident have not yet been ascertained.
Following the incident, the bodies of the two suspected intruders were handed over to the police for post-mortem examination. Further details regarding their identities and the circumstances surrounding the attempted crossing are awaited.
The incident highlights the alertness maintained by the BSF along the international border in Punjab, where security forces remain responsible for preventing unauthorised crossings and responding to suspected infiltration attempts.
Punjab shares a 553-kilometre-long international border with Pakistan. The border sector has also witnessed attempts involving cross-border smuggling and infiltration, requiring sustained surveillance and security measures by the BSF.
The latest incident at BOP Rajoke comes amid these continuing security concerns along the Punjab border. The BSF has previously thwarted several attempts involving unauthorised movement and cross-border activities in the sector.
The incident also underlines the importance of vigilance by border personnel operating in the Punjab sector, particularly in areas where individuals attempting to cross the international boundary can pose a security challenge.
The identities and background of the two deceased individuals are yet to be established. Further investigation by the police and security agencies is expected to determine their identities and the circumstances surrounding their attempted entry into Indian territory.
With the infiltration attempt being detected and stopped near BOP Rajoke, the BSF continues to maintain surveillance along the Punjab border to prevent unauthorised crossings and safeguard India’s international boundary.
