The School of Artillery, Deolali, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on October 1, 2026, for the award of M.Tech degrees to student officers undergoing the Long Gunnery Staff Course.
The MoA was signed by Brigadier Virender Singh of the School of Artillery and Dr Manoj Singh Gaur, Director, IIT Jammu.
Under the collaboration, student officers undergoing the Long Gunnery Staff Course will be able to undertake Technology Readiness Level (TRL)-based projects in collaboration with IIT Jammu. These projects will focus on real-world technical challenges and operational requirements of the Indian Army.
The initiative brings together the military experience of officers undergoing the course with the academic and technical expertise of IIT Jammu. The collaboration is intended to promote research, innovation and the development of indigenous technology solutions.

The TRL-based approach will provide a framework for student officers to work on technology-oriented projects linked to practical requirements. Through their engagement with IIT Jammu, the officers will be able to combine their operational understanding with academic and technical inputs.
The School of Artillery and IIT Jammu collaboration therefore provides an academic platform for integrating military requirements with technical research. The focus on real-world challenges and operational requirements is aimed at encouraging solutions relevant to the Indian Army.
The MoA marks a collaboration between a premier Army training institution and an IIT for advancing research and technology development through the Long Gunnery Staff Course. It also provides student officers with an opportunity to pursue M.Tech degrees while undertaking projects connected with military and operational requirements.
The collaboration is expected to contribute to research, innovation and indigenous technology development by bringing military experience and academic expertise together in a structured manner.
