Admiral Samuel J Paparo, Commander of the US Pacific Command, arrived in India on October 3 for a six-day official visit aimed at further strengthening the India-US Major Defence Partnership and deepening military-to-military cooperation.
Paparo is scheduled to remain in India from October 3 to 8 and will hold talks with senior leadership from the Ministry of Defence and the Indian Armed Forces. Discussions are expected to focus on shared security priorities across the Indo-Pacific region.
Key issues on the agenda include digital transformation, emerging critical technologies and regional strategic stability. India and the United States are also focusing on strengthening defence energy resilience and navigating an increasingly competitive global technology landscape.
The US Embassy, in a statement on Saturday, said that the two countries were building a defence partnership focused on emerging technology and maritime security and aimed at addressing future challenges.
The visit comes as India and the US continue to expand military cooperation through joint exercises, intelligence sharing and technological co-development. These areas of cooperation are also linked to efforts to safeguard sea lines of communication.
Paparo’s visit provides an opportunity for senior Indian and US defence officials to discuss the evolving security environment in the Indo-Pacific and areas where military-to-military cooperation can be further strengthened.
The discussions will cover both technological and maritime dimensions of the bilateral defence relationship, with emerging critical technologies, digital transformation and defence energy resilience forming key areas of focus.
The six-day visit is part of continuing engagement between the two countries as India and the United States seek to deepen their Major Defence Partnership and cooperation between their armed forces.
The visit also comes amid continued emphasis by both sides on maritime security and regional strategic stability, with the Indo-Pacific remaining a key area for India-US defence cooperation.
