New Delhi, October 5, 2026: The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has assigned the current duty charge of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police to 12 Selection Grade DANIPS officers of Delhi Police, including Vivek Bhagat, with immediate effect.
Vivek Bhagat, a 2018-batch DANIPS officer, was serving as Assistant Commissioner of Police and Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Connaught Place, in the New Delhi district. He is among the officers to whom the charge of Additional DCP has been assigned under an order issued by the Home Department of the Delhi government.
The other officers covered by the order are Dr Vikas Sheokand, A. Venkatesh, Gursewak Singh, Renu Lata, Vidushi Kaushik, Manu Himanshu, Sakaria Mihir Pravinbhai, Garima Tiwari, Ashish Kumar, Manish Ladla and Rohit Gupta.

The order states that the officers holding the current duty charge will perform only the routine duties of the post. They will not be authorised to discharge the statutory duties of an Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police. The arrangement is temporary and will cease once the Ministry of Home Affairs fills the Additional DCP posts on a regular basis. During this interim period, the officers will not receive any additional pay, nor will they be entitled to claim seniority, pay or allowances attached to the post.
Senior police officers described the order as part of a routine administrative process. The proposal for the assignment of charge had been processed earlier and covers a batch of eligible DANIPS officers posted in Delhi Police.
During a massive student demonstration led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) near Jantar Mantar in July 2026, Bhagat was heavily assaulted by an aggressive mob.
