Sikar, Rajasthan, October 9, 2026: Lieutenant General PS Shekhawat, Chief of Staff of the Indian Army’s Sapta Shakti Command, visited the Agniveer Recruitment Rally at Sikar in Rajasthan on October 8 to review the recruitment process and assess arrangements for candidates aspiring to join the Indian Army under the Agnipath scheme.
During the visit, the senior Army officer inspected various stages of the recruitment process, including physical fitness tests, medical screening, recruitment procedures and administrative arrangements. The review focused on ensuring that the selection process was conducted efficiently, transparently and in accordance with prescribed standards.
Lt Gen Shekhawat interacted with recruitment officials, staff and representatives from civil academia to understand the arrangements made for the rally and the challenges involved in conducting the recruitment process. He emphasised the importance of maintaining fairness, transparency and efficiency while identifying suitable candidates for service in the Indian Army.
The Agniveer recruitment rally provides an opportunity for eligible young candidates to demonstrate their physical fitness, medical suitability and overall preparedness for military service. The selection process involves multiple stages designed to assess candidates against the standards prescribed by the Indian Army.
During his interaction with recruiting personnel, Lt Gen Shekhawat highlighted the responsibility of ensuring that deserving candidates receive equal opportunities throughout the recruitment process. He stressed the need for effective coordination among recruitment authorities and supporting agencies to maintain the integrity and smooth conduct of the rally.
The Sapta Shakti Command, also known as the Indian Army’s South Western Command, is headquartered in Jaipur and plays an important role in overseeing military operations and preparedness in its area of responsibility. The command also supports various military training, administrative and recruitment-related activities.

The Agnipath recruitment scheme, introduced in 2022, provides an opportunity for young Indians to serve in the Armed Forces as Agniveers for a period of four years. Under the scheme, up to 25 per cent of each batch may be selected for regular service, subject to organisational requirements and prescribed selection criteria.
Recruitment rallies remain an important part of the Army’s efforts to identify physically fit, disciplined and motivated young individuals capable of meeting the demands of military service. The process also requires close coordination between military recruitment authorities, local administration and other supporting organisations.

The visit by Lt Gen PS Shekhawat to the Sikar recruitment rally highlighted the Indian Army’s emphasis on maintaining high recruitment standards while ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.
The review reinforced the Army’s commitment to providing eligible youth with opportunities to serve the nation while selecting candidates who meet the physical, medical and professional requirements of military service.
