Exercise Cambrian Patrol, organised by the British Army, is internationally recognised as one of the most challenging military patrolling exercises. It brings together military teams from different countries to evaluate their physical stamina, leadership, fieldcraft, navigation and tactical decision-making under demanding operational conditions.
The competition typically requires participating teams to undertake a gruelling patrol across the rugged Welsh countryside while carrying heavy combat equipment and completing a series of military tasks within strict time limits.
Participants are assessed on various soldiering skills, including navigation, reconnaissance, casualty evacuation, communications, tactical awareness and teamwork. The demanding nature of the exercise tests both individual capabilities and the collective effectiveness of military patrols.

The ASSAM Regiment’s success is particularly significant given the intense competition from experienced military teams representing armed forces from across the world. Securing a Gold Medal places the Indian contingent among the highest-performing teams in the prestigious international exercise.
Known for its distinguished military traditions, courage and operational excellence, the ASSAM Regiment has a proud history of service in the Indian Army. Its personnel have served in challenging operational environments, including mountainous and high-altitude regions.
The achievement at Cambrian Patrol 2026 reflects the regiment’s rigorous training standards, discipline and ability to perform effectively under extreme physical and psychological pressure.
Celebrating the accomplishment under the spirit of “JAI SE VIJAY,” the Indian Army described the victory as a testament to the “Yoddha Spirit,” where rigorous training, battlefield skills and an unwavering pursuit of excellence translate into success on the global stage.
The Gold Medal victory further reinforces the Indian Army’s reputation for professionalism, resilience and tactical competence in international military competitions.
