Joshimath, Uttarakhand, October 28, 2026: Mrs Komal Seth, President of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), interacted with Army families at Joshimath in Uttarakhand, highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood opportunities among military families.
During her visit, Mrs Seth toured several stalls showcasing innovative entrepreneurial initiatives undertaken by Army families. The exhibits reflected the creativity, skills and entrepreneurial spirit of women who are actively contributing towards generating local employment and building self-reliant communities.
The initiatives showcased at the event focused on enhancing vocational skills, encouraging small businesses and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. The interaction provided a platform for Army families to display their products, share their experiences and highlight their entrepreneurial achievements.
Mrs Seth appreciated the efforts of the families and acknowledged the importance of providing women with opportunities to develop their skills and pursue economic independence. The visit reaffirmed AWWA’s commitment to supporting Army families through skill development, entrepreneurship and community welfare initiatives.

As part of her visit to the region, Mrs Komal Seth also interacted with local women artisans at the Yarns of Yore outlet in Mana village, located near the India-China border in Uttarakhand.
The outlet promotes traditional Himalayan weaving techniques while empowering local women artisans through entrepreneurship and sustainable income-generating opportunities. The initiative aims to preserve the region’s rich cultural heritage while helping women become financially independent.

Mrs Seth’s interaction with the artisans highlighted the role of traditional handicrafts and locally driven enterprises in supporting rural livelihoods, particularly in remote Himalayan communities.

Through such engagements, AWWA continues to promote women’s empowerment, encourage self-reliance and strengthen the welfare ecosystem supporting Army families. The initiatives also demonstrate how entrepreneurship and traditional skills can contribute to sustainable development in border regions.
