Bhopal/Katni (Madhya Pradesh), November 6–7, 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Ajayveer Singh, Senior Section Engineer (Electric-M), West Central Railway, posted at New Katni Junction in Katni district, after catching him red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹45,000.
The CBI registered a case on November 5, 2026, on the basis of a complaint alleging that Singh demanded an undue advantage of ₹1,500 per labourer for 30 labourers totalling ₹45,000 as consideration for not removing the contractor’s workers from an ongoing assignment. The agency laid a trap and apprehended him at Katni while he was demanding and accepting the amount from the complainant.
Following the arrest, CBI teams conducted searches at Singh’s residence and office to recover incriminating documents and other relevant evidence. He was produced before a competent court (Special CBI Court) in Jabalpur on November 6. The court remanded him to judicial custody until November 12, 2026. Investigation is continuing.
According to reports citing CBI sources and local coverage, the complainant (identified in some accounts as a contractor linked to Tejram Kushwaha/Shashank) approached the CBI Anti-Corruption Bureau, Jabalpur. Verification of the demand was carried out, after which the trap was executed. Some accounts note that the bribe amount was handed over in the form of ninety ₹500 notes. Singh is posted in the electrical section at New Katni Junction and was allegedly seeking the payment to retain the contract labourers on the work.
The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The CBI has described the demand as an unofficial payment sought in exchange for allowing the 30 workers to continue on the job. No official statement from West Central Railway on the matter has been widely reported as of the latest updates.
This arrest forms part of the CBI’s ongoing anti-corruption operations involving public servants. In a separate development reported around the same period, the agency also apprehended an absconding accused in a long-pending bank fraud case from Bihar, though the two matters are unrelated.
Further details are expected as the investigation progresses and the court proceedings continue.
