Ahmedabad, November 8, 2026: A 39-year-old former Indian Army personnel was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife during a domestic argument over a vegetable dish prepared for dinner in the Naroda area of Ahmedabad. Police have arrested the accused, registered a murder case, and are investigating the circumstances that turned a routine household dispute fatal.
The victim, Dilip Kharadi, had served in the Indian Army before leaving the service. He was subsequently employed as a contractual driver with the Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC). He lived with his 34-year-old wife, Nirmala Kharadi (Nirmalaben), and their two children at Naroda Smart City-2. Police said the couple had a history of frequent arguments over the past year concerning household matters, food preferences, finances, and domestic responsibilities.
According to police accounts, the incident occurred late on Thursday night (November 5–6, 2026), between approximately 10 pm and midnight. An argument broke out after Kharadi returned home and sat down for dinner. The disagreement reportedly began when he questioned or expressed dissatisfaction over a particular vegetable curry that his wife had cooked. The exchange escalated into a heated argument involving mutual abuses.
Reports indicate that the situation turned physical, with the husband allegedly assaulting his wife. In response, Nirmala went into the kitchen, picked up a kitchen knife (described as a vegetable-cutting knife), and stabbed him on the left side of his chest, above the heart. Some accounts note additional injuries on his right cheek, right upper arm, and thumbs.
Kharadi sustained fatal injuries. In one sequence of events detailed by police and family sources, Nirmala called her brother-in-law, Mukesh, informed him of the stabbing, and stated that she was taking her husband to the hospital. Family members rushed to Shalby Hospital, where he was declared dead. Other reports state that he died on the spot or was declared dead on arrival after she transported him herself. Naroda Police Inspector B.M. Katariya confirmed that the stabbing caused serious chest injuries leading to death.
Police acted swiftly. Based on CCTV footage from the area and intelligence inputs, teams traced and arrested Nirmala within hours on Friday. A case has been registered at Naroda police station under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with relevant provisions of the Gujarat Police Act.

Senior officers, including VN Yadav, stated that the couple’s recurring domestic disputes formed the backdrop to the fatal incident. Investigators are questioning the accused and examining the exact sequence of events, including the role of longstanding financial and household tensions.
The case highlights how a seemingly minor disagreement over dinner preparations escalated into a violent tragedy. Police continue their investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the death of the former Army personnel.
