In a significant demonstration of military collaboration and strategic precision, the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully conducted a high-stakes operation in the Arabian Sea, underscoring the potent capabilities of India’s defense forces in joint operations.
A C-17 aircraft of the IAF was deployed to execute a meticulously planned airborne drop of two Combat Rubberised Raiding Craft (CRRC) boats, accompanied by elite commandos from the Indian Navy’s Marine Commando Force (MARCOS).
This operation was part of the anti-piracy initiative, Operation Sankalp, aimed at safeguarding international maritime security against the threat of piracy.
The mission, which involved nearly 10 hours of flight, targeted an area approximately 2,600 kilometers off the Indian coastline, in response to a distress situation involving the bulk carrier vessel MV Ruen.
The ship had been hijacked by Somali pirates near the Yemeni island of Socotra, posing a significant threat to the lives of the crew onboard and the security of international shipping lanes.
Collaborating closely with the Indian Navy, the IAF’s successful deployment of the MARCOS via air-drop into the Arabian Sea exemplifies the strategic depth and operational readiness of India’s armed forces.
The mission culminated in the successful rescue of all 17 crew members of the MV Ruen, ensuring their safety and dealing a blow to piracy operations in the region.
