Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane Advocates Peace and Cooperation at SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane represented India at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meeting held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The meeting, attended by Defence Ministers from all SCO Member States, saw the signing of a protocol and the issuance of a Joint Communique outlining key initiatives and agreements.

A highlight of the meeting was the unanimous endorsement of the concept of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’, rooted in the ancient Indian philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.

During his address, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to fostering peace, stability, and security in the SCO region.

Emphasizing the imperative of combating terrorism in all its forms, he advocated for a zero-tolerance approach towards this global menace, recognizing its detrimental impact on the prosperity and development of SCO Member States.

Shri Giridhar Aramane underscored India’s longstanding proposal for a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the United Nations, emphasizing the need for concerted global action to address this pressing challenge.

He also spotlighted India’s vision of ‘Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)’ for the Indo-Pacific, emphasizing the importance of inclusive security frameworks to promote peace and prosperity in the region.

The Defence Secretary’s remarks resonated with the broader objectives of the SCO, which seeks to promote mutual trust, cooperation, and comprehensive security among its Member States.

As a founding member of the SCO, India remains committed to advancing these shared goals and contributing constructively to regional stability and development.
