Rear Admiral Peush Pawsey, Joint Chief Hydrographer of the National Hydrographic Office (NHO) Dehradun, recently visited Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata to review the ongoing construction of the new Survey Vessels Large.

His visit marked a significant milestone in the project, reflecting the strategic importance of these vessels in enhancing India’s maritime capabilities.

During his visit, Rear Admiral Pawsey conducted a thorough review of the construction progress. He was briefed on the latest developments, technical advancements, and timelines associated with the new survey vessels.

These state-of-the-art ships are designed to bolster India’s hydrographic survey capabilities, critical for navigational safety, maritime resource management, and national security.

Rear Admiral Pawsey interacted with the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of GRSE, Commodore (Retd) P R Hari, and other senior officials and staff.

He commended the team for their dedication and adherence to the best practices of shipbuilding, which have been instrumental in maintaining GRSE’s reputation as one of the premier shipyards in the country.

“The progress on the new Survey Vessels Large is commendable,” said Rear Admiral Pawsey. “GRSE has consistently demonstrated excellence in shipbuilding, and their commitment to quality and innovation is evident in this project. These vessels will significantly enhance our hydrographic capabilities, contributing to maritime safety and economic development.”

The Survey Vessels Large are equipped with advanced hydrographic and oceanographic equipment, making them capable of conducting extensive surveys of the seabed, collecting critical data for maritime navigation, and supporting scientific research.

Their construction is a part of India’s broader strategy to modernize its naval fleet and improve its maritime infrastructure.

Rear Admiral Pawsey’s visit also included a tour of the shipyard’s facilities, where he witnessed firsthand the sophisticated techniques and technologies employed in the construction process.
