The Marthoma had a crew of 13 at the time of the collision. As of now, a total of 11 crew members have been successfully rescued, though efforts are ongoing to locate the two individuals who remain missing. The collision occurred around 70 nautical miles from the Goan coastline, raising concerns about maritime safety and navigation in the region.

In response to the situation, the Indian Navy has mobilized six ships and several aircraft to conduct a thorough search for the missing crew members. Additionally, the rescue operations are being coordinated through the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai, with the Coast Guard also contributing additional resources to the effort.

An official statement from the Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the search and rescue operations are active and comprehensive, emphasizing the commitment to locate the missing crew swiftly. The statement also noted that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

This incident raises important questions regarding the safety measures in place for both naval and commercial vessels operating in close proximity to each other. As the search continues, authorities are expected to release further updates on the status of the missing crew members and findings from the investigation into the cause of the collision.
