MoA Signed for Management of Major Bob Khathing Museum by Indian Army in Tawang

In a significant step towards honoring the contributions of Indian military history and promoting tourism, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) has been signed between the state government of Arunachal Pradesh and the Indian Army concerning the Major Ralengnao Bob Khathing Museum of Valor located in Tawang. The agreement was formalized in the presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

The MoA was executed by Tawangโ€™s deputy commissioner, Kangki Darang, and Brigadier V S Rajput of the 190 Mountain Brigade. Under the terms of this agreement, the Indian Army will take sole responsibility for the management and upkeep of the museum, ensuring it remains a fitting tribute to the valor and service of military personnel.

During the event, Chief Minister Khandu paid heartfelt tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister of India. The chief minister highlighted Patelโ€™s pivotal role in the establishment of Indian administrative control over Tawang in 1951, marking a significant transition from Tibetan administration. Khandu reflected on the historical context, stating, โ€œIf not for Sardar Patel, Major Bob Khathing, and the then Governor of Assam Daulat Ram, who knows we Monpas and the Tawang region today would have been under China-controlled Tibet region!โ€

Khandu expressed profound gratitude toward the Indian Army, particularly recognizing the contributions of the 190 Mountain Brigade for allocating the defense land necessary for the museumโ€™s establishment and agreeing to manage its operations. He assured that the state government would fully support the museumโ€™s maintenance and management whenever governmental intervention is required.

The ceremony also saw the presence of various dignitaries, including Tourism Minister P D Sona, legislators Oken Tayeng and Namge Tsering, as well as senior officials from both the state government and the Indian Army, including the commanders of the 106 and 46 Brigades, and heads of various departments.

This collaboration is expected not only to preserve the legacy of Major Bob Khathing but also to foster increased tourism in Tawang, a region known for its beautiful landscapes and cultural significance. The enhanced management of the museum will play an essential role in educating visitors about the areaโ€™s rich history and the sacrifices made by its military personnel.
