As the supreme commander of India’s defense forces, the President highlighted the Navy’s significant contributions to ensuring maritime security, which she described as essential for national growth. She praised the Navy’s adept integration of advanced technologies and tactical skills, showcased through recent operational demonstrations that demonstrated its evolution into a combat-ready and credible force.

With a focus on self-reliance, Murmu noted that 63 ships are currently being constructed in India, reflecting the Navy’s commitment to domestic production and innovation across various sectors. She emphasized India’s unique position as one of only six countries capable of designing, building, and operating both Ballistic Missile Nuclear Submarines and Aircraft Carriers.

Recognizing the Navy’s efforts to empower women, the President acknowledged its pivotal role in India’s victories, particularly during the 1971 war, and celebrated the country’s rich maritime history that spans over 5,000 years. As part of the Navy Day commemorations, which honor the sacrifices made by naval forces, she extended her best wishes to all personnel, expressing her admiration for their dedication and service.

The celebrations also highlighted specific examples of women’s empowerment in the Navy, such as Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and Lieutenant Commander Roopa, who are currently circumnavigating the globe on INSV Tarini as part of ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama II.’ Murmu expressed her hopes for continued success for the Indian Navy under the blessings of Varuna.

Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi addressed the audience, discussing recent achievements that have elevated India’s naval stature on the global stage. He affirmed the enhanced cooperation through various bilateral and multilateral engagements, highlighting India’s role as a responsible partner in maintaining regional security and promoting growth.

The Navy Day celebrations, which took place on India’s eastern coast for the first time, were characterized by action-packed displays of maritime prowess, showcasing the strength and versatility of India’s naval fleet. The operational demonstration featured 15 warships, 37 aircraft, and a submarine, highlighting aerial dominance with performances by fighter jets, combat free falls, slithering operations by MARCOS, submarine displays, and rocket firings from warships.

The impressive demonstrations captivated thousands of spectators, marking a significant celebration of strategic victories during the 1971 India-Pakistan war and reinforcing the Navy’s readiness to protect the nation’s maritime interests at any time.
