Lt Gen Manjinder Singh Interacted With Student Officers Attending the SWCPSC

Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, the Army Commander of the Sapta Shakti Command, recently engaged with student officers attending the South Western Command Professional Studies Course (SWCPSC) at the 33rd Armoured Division, commonly known as the “Dot On Target” Division. In his address, Lt Gen Singh emphasized the importance of striving for excellence and achieving professional goals, inspiring the officers to uphold the highest standards of military proficiency.

The 33rd Armoured Division, based at Hisar Military Station, is an integral part of the Indian Army’s I Corps under the South Western Command. Established on November 15, 1982, the division has a storied history of operational readiness and strategic importance.

It comprises five brigades: the 39th, 57th, and 88th Armoured Brigades, the 627th (Independent) Armoured Air Defence Brigade, and the 33rd Artillery Brigade. Each brigade plays a crucial role in maintaining the division’s combat effectiveness and versatility.​

Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, was commissioned into the 19th Battalion of the Madras Regiment in December 1986. Throughout his distinguished 37-year military career, he has held pivotal command and staff positions across various terrains, including Jammu and Kashmir and the Western Front.

His leadership roles have encompassed commanding his battalion in counter-insurgency operations, leading an infantry brigade along the Line of Control, overseeing an infantry division within the Desert Strike Corps, and directing a corps engaged in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir. For his exemplary service, Lt Gen Singh has been honored with the Yudh Seva Medal in 2015, the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2019, and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2024.​

The South Western Command, also known as the Sapta Shakti Command, was established on April 15, 2005, with its headquarters in Jaipur, Rajasthan. It was formed to address emerging strategic challenges along India’s western borders. The command oversees multiple operational units, including the X Corps and the 42nd Artillery Division, and is responsible for ensuring the combat readiness and operational effectiveness of its formations.​

Lt Gen Singh’s interaction with the student officers underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to continuous professional development and excellence.
