In a significant move towards modernizing mechanized warfare capabilities, the Indian Army’s Western Command, in collaboration with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), organized the inaugural Mechanised Equipment Technology Seminar and Exhibition (Mech Tech) at the Chandimandir Military Station on March 3-4, 2025.

The event, themed ‘Make in India Continuum: Making Mechanised Platforms Future Ready,’ was inaugurated by Lieutenant General N S Raja Subramani, Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS), and brought together eminent speakers from the armed forces, academia, and the defence industry to deliberate on the future landscape of mechanized warfare and the infusion of niche technologies.

The seminar featured discussions on various aspects of mechanized warfare, including the integration of advanced technologies into existing platforms, the development of light tanks like the Zorawar for high-altitude operations, and the enhancement of operational capabilities of armored vehicles in challenging terrains.

Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, highlighted the Army’s focus on inducting lighter mechanized platforms to enhance operational effectiveness in high-altitude areas. He also emphasized the importance of countering emerging threats such as drones and anti-tank weapon systems by devising appropriate countermeasures.

A notable highlight of the event was the release of a compendium titled ‘Niche Technology in Mechanised Platforms Worldwide,’ which provides insights into global advancements in mechanized warfare technologies. The exhibition showcased cutting-edge technologies with active participation from indigenous industrial partners, reflecting the spirit of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India).

The displays included various mechanized platforms, drones, anti-drone systems, and communication technologies, underscoring the collaborative efforts between the Indian Army and the defence industry to achieve technological self-reliance.

The Mech Tech seminar and exhibition served as a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, reinforcing the Indian Army’s commitment to integrating advanced technologies into its mechanized forces. By aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, the event highlighted the collective endeavor to transform and future-proof India’s defence capabilities in mechanized warfare.
