A group of 10 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets achieved a momentous milestone on Sunday by successfully reaching the summit of Mount Everest, standing tall at 8,848 meters. This marks the third time an NCC expedition has scaled the worldโ€™s highest peak, following similar triumphs in 2013 and 2016. The historic feat reaffirms the organizationโ€™s reputation as a cradle of resilience and adventure among Indian youth.

The team, composed of five boys and five girls, was flagged off last month by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from South Block, New Delhi. Their journey to the summit was preceded by extensive training on Mount Abi Gamin (7,335 meters) in the Garhwal Himalayas and at the Siachen Battle School, known for its unforgiving conditions. These preparatory exercises tested the cadetsโ€™ physical endurance, mental toughness, and teamwork โ€” all of which proved vital for their success on Everest.

Upon conquering the summit, the cadets unfurled the Indian Tricolour and the NCC flag, symbolizing not only national pride but also the indomitable spirit of Indiaโ€™s youth. The expedition was part of a broader mountaineering initiative involving 25 Indian Army climbers aiming to scale Everest, alongside a joint Indo-Nepali Army team set to climb Mount Kangchenjunga, the third-highest peak in the world.

Led by Colonel Amit Bisht, the NCC expedition included four officers and 11 permanent instructors who provided critical logistical and safety support throughout the mission. Planning and training for the climb had begun over a year in advance, with the team navigating treacherous terrains and high-altitude camps to prepare for the extreme conditions of Everest.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the cadetsโ€™ achievement, calling it a shining example of youthful courage and determination. โ€œThese young climbers have made the nation proud. Their extraordinary achievement stands as a beacon of inspiration for Indiaโ€™s youth and reinforces the values of leadership, endurance, and unity that NCC embodies,โ€ he said.

A celebratory event was held to honor the team, where they were felicitated in the presence of dignitaries, senior defence officials, and fellow cadets. Banners highlighting the expeditionโ€™s success adorned the venue, capturing the pride and excitement surrounding the accomplishment.

This third successful ascent of Everest further solidifies the NCCโ€™s legacy in adventure sports and leadership development. It also underscores the organizationโ€™s role in nurturing a generation of disciplined, resilient, and patriotic young Indians ready to rise to any challenge.
